The aim was simple. To give consumers the ability to find the food hygiene rating for any food outlet in England, Northern Ireland, Wales, and Scotland.
Local authorities would be providing inspection data of their outlets so one of the main challenges was to process this data in a timely and performant manner.
Coupled with that, the public facing website also needed to be extremely responsive and deliver results (even if someone did a very wide search) almost instantaneoulsy, and across multiple devices.
